Skill Insight - Broaching Machine

What is Broaching Machine?

Broaching machine is a machine used in the metal-based manufacturing industry to create shapes. A broaching machine is not the same as a lathe; its working principles are different. A lathe rotates the workpiece and moves a cutting tool to cut, while a broaching machine uses a toothed cutting tool (called a broach) that moves straight back and forth through the workpiece to remove material.

The resulting shapes are also different. Lathes typically produce cylindrical shapes, circular surfaces, or threads, while broaching machines typically produce grooves, holes, or various other precise geometric shapes, such as gears, keyways, splines, turbine discs.crankshafts, and so on.
